Overview
To promote transparency and informed decision-making, the Iowa Board of Regents 3.20 Syllabi Posting and Notification of Students on Class Content policy requires public access to specific undergraduate course syllabus information, including:
- Course title and number
- Course description
- Course learning objectives
- A general outline of course topics
- Required textbooks, readings, and other materials necessary for the course
- A description of the types of assessments used in the course
It should be noted this requirement does not apply to all undergraduate courses. Courses exempt from the policy include: Internships, practica, independent study or research projects, honors/senior thesis, or study abroad offered by a third party. Additional exclusions may be approved by the Board Office.
This website helps fulfill the requirement by making the information centrally available to students, families, and the public.
The syllabus information is provided by staff, faculty, and administrators in the academic departments, and it will be available on the website upon review and approval by the Department Chair or Associate Dean. The required course syllabus information must be published no later than the first of classes for the academic term in which the course is offered.
